Unsteady NTPC supply may increase power bill for some
A section of power consumers faces the likelihood of higher utility bills as some of NTPC’s pithead plants that have among the lowest generating costs are running way below capacity, forcing distribution companies to make up the shortfall through costlier purchases from alternative sources.
An NTPC executive said power output at pitheads in Korba and Talcher, among others, was affected by frequent law and order issues, which disrupted mining operations and led to coal shortage. Coal mining is also affected in the monsoon season.
