UJVN Ltd owes Rs 300 crore to UPCL

The State-owned UJVN Limited owes a sum of Rs 300 crore to another state owned corporation Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL). Under the power purchase agreement, the UJVN Ltd sells the electricity produced by it to the UPCL at Rs 1.41 per unit while the UPCL has to shell out Rs 5 per unit for the power purchased from other States. The Managing Director (MD) of UJVN Ltd, S N Verma said that the corporation sells its entire production to the UPCL. He said that Uttarakhand has a potential to generate 25,000 MW power from its hydropower resources. At present under the UJVN limited, 1292 MW hydroelectric projects are under operation and construction work is going on in 148.5 MW hydro power projects.
