SpiceJet’s three grounded freighter aircraft resume operations

NEW DELHI : Budget carrier SpiceJet on Monday said three of its B737 freighter aircraft, which were grounded on 13 December, have resumed operations.

“Basis the resolution provided by Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), the three grounded B737 freighter aircraft shall return to our operations effective 23 December,” SpiceJet said in a regulatory filing.

The airline had grounded these aircraft due to “potential defect” on the advice of Israeli Aerospace Industries (IAI), which converted these aircraft to freighters. During an internal examination of IAI’s manufacturing facilities, a potential defect was discovered in the process used to manufacture the 9G rigid barrier installed on these aircraft.
