Several flights cancelled as passenger traffic drops amid Covid fear

The number of passengers flying to Ranchi from different cities has halved, while the count of those boarding flights from the Birsa Munda Airport has dropped down to one-third of the usual flow in the past one week owing to the Covid-19 crisis, airport authorities said on Tuesday.

The significant drop in passenger traffic has also led to cancellation of several flights, mostly to Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore – three of the worst-affected cities in India.

Airport Director Vinod Sharma said that on an average around 2000 passengers boarded flights from Ranchi every day and more than 2500 arrived here before the second wave of the pandemic hit Jharkhand.
