September coal production rises 12% from a year ago

NEW DELHI: Coal production rose more than 12% in September from a year ago, a factor that helped boost thermal power production by over 13% as festive demand kicked in.

A government statement on Monday pegged overall September coal production at 57. 9 million tonnes (MT) against 51. 7MT in the same month of 2021. The statement said Coal India’s production rose 12% and SCCL’s 8. 4%,while captive mines posted a growth of 12. 3% during the period under review.

Some 25 out of the 37 major mines posted a production level of more than 100%and output of another five mines stood between 80% and even 100% during the period under review.
