Safilguda rly crossing shut for good, commuters fume

SECUNDERABAD: Residents in Malkajgiri municipal area, one of the largest residential and commercial areas in Greater Hyderabad, are a troubled lot for the past eight months, having to take a 2-3km detour owing to closure of Safilguda railway crossing gate by South Central Railway (SCR).

The level crossing, which had 1.5 lakh people crisscrossing it daily, was closed by the SCR in December 2022 without citing a reason. SCR was supposed to reopen the gates in February 2023, but that has not happened yet.
