Roads under Old City Metro stations to be 120 feet wide

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) has announced that all five stations on the MGBS-Falaknuma stretch of Corridor-II (Green Line) will have 120-feet wide roads under the viaduct. A decision to this effect was taken in light of the congestion and issues faced during implementation of phase-1, HMRL managing director NVS Reddy said. The construction on the stretch will involve acquiring over 1,000 properties.

As TOI had previously reported, 103 religious structures – 21 masjids, 12 temples, 12 ashoorkhanas, 33 dargahs, seven graveyards and six chillas – were likely to be impacted, but through engineering solutions like adjustment of cuvature, viaduct design, etc, only four would be ultimately impacted. Officials claimed that MAUD minister KT Rama Rao had asked for these four structures to be saved by bringing in some engineering refinements, which were being sorted out.
