Under attack of the opposition for handing over Bathinda thermal plant land to PUDA for redevelopment and sale, Punjab Government on Tuesday made it clear that the shutting down of the “loss-making” and “smoke-spewing” plant would pave way for the creation of the State’s “largest industrial park”.
The state Finance Minister and Bathinda Urban MLA Manpreet Singh Badal, responding to the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) allegations a day the state Cabinet allowed redevelopment of plant’s 174 acres of land, said: “While the Bathinda Thermal Plant was shut down three years ago due to environmental, economic, and administrative issues, the recently approved plan will revitalize and rejuvenate the economy of southern Punjab.”
