Power tariff hike: BJP stages protests in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: The BJP staged protests in all district headquarters in Tamil Nadu on Saturday demanding that the DMK government drop its decision to increase power tariff.

A couple days ago, state electricity minister V Senthil Balaji announced that the government would increase the power tariff for all sections of the consumers. The minister cited the Union government’s communications to the state asking it to restructure the power tariff to avail the central subsidy.

Rejecting the minister’s claim, state BJP president K Annamalai announced state-wide protests.
