Northeast protests hit flights for second straight day

NEW DELHI : Flights to the Northeast were disrupted for the second straight day amid widening protests over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, forcing the Dibrugarh airport in Upper Assam to shut down till at least Saturday.

Besides the nine daily flights to Dibrugarh, 11 flights to Assam’s capital Guwahati were also cancelled on Friday, an official with Airport Authority of India (AAI) said, on condition of anonymity.

Guwahati airport operates around 80 flights every day.
