New Centre-Delhi tiff as DERC chief named

NEW DELHI: In a move that has opened a new front for a face-off between the AAP government and the lieutenant governor, the Union home ministry on Wednesday appointed retired justice Umesh Kumar of Allahabad High Court as the chairperson of Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC).

According to officials, the AAP government had in January sent the name of retired justice Rajiv Kumar Shrivastava to LG Vinai Kumar Saxena for appointment as the new chairperson of the power regulator. Shrivastava, however, expressed his inability to take the responsibility through a communication to the LG on June 15, citing “family commitments and requirements”, officials added.
