Mumbai: New Metro lines make a dream commute – punctured only by poor last mile connectivity

MUMBAI: Over six months have elapsed since the city’s office-goers and students received the gift of two new Metro lines in January this year. The honeymoon period has provided travellers a fair opportunity to assess the service. The common consensus is that the brisk, air-conditioned commute is smooth – with a few warts to be removed. Frequency of trains could be better. The long queues and delays caused by security scans and faulty punching machines could be resolved. And the absence of last mile connectivity from the station to one’s home or workplace is a dampener: finding bus stops and negotiating with auto drivers is a clear problem.
