Mumbai: Consumers receive fake SMS for power disconnection

MUMBAI: The BEST has received several complaints from its consumers about fake SMS for power disconnections and online frauds, and the messages have come from nine different numbers, said a spokesperson on Wednesday.

“We have been flooded with calls from consumers who receive fake messages threatening them with power disconnection if they did not pay the bill dues online. This is a fraudulent message, aimed at fleecing our consumers. A few of them have lost money and we have directed them to the cyber crime cell,” the spokesperson Manoj Varade said.

The police are yet to zero in on the culprit who keeps changing the numbers each time, sources said.
