Lock Gate bridge clears load test

Kolkata: The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) has completed the load-bearing capacity test of the newly reconstructed Chetla Lock Gate bridge and the bridge is now fully ready to be thrown open for traffic.

The authorities conducted a 72-hour load test from Saturday to Monday to check and measure the deflection level to see whether all the parameters were in place before vehicles started moving on the bridge. Four trucks of about 30 tonne each were gradually placed in phases on the bridge’s carriageway to conduct the load test. The full 120-tonne static load was placed on the bridge for 24 hours following which the trucks were again gradually removed.
