Kolkata: Next time you dial 1912 to report a power outage or inquire about the billed amount or how to upgrade the meter, Astha will be at the other end of the line to note the complaint or answer queries. Trained to speak in everyday English, Bengali and Hindi, she is capable of conversing with 16 people at any given moment.
Astha is not a superhuman. She is a humanoid, a machine with human characteristics that integrates artificial intelligence, machine learning, speech recognition, language processing and understanding and prediction models in a manner that it is able to converse with people like any other human being.
