Highway crash: Orphaned 4-year-old boy inconsolable, kin of deceased in shock in Tumakuru

TUMAKURU: Heart-rending scenes prevailed at the district government hospital in Tumakuru on Thursday as survivors of a MUV-truck collision earlier in the morning struggled to come to terms with the loss of their near and dear ones in the accident that claimed nine lives.
Four-year-old Sandeep, who lost his parents and six-year-old elder brother Vinod and injured his left hand in the accident, sobbed uncontrollably, even as he let out shrieks of ‘appa’ (father Prabhuswamy) and ‘amma’ (mother Sujatha).
Too young to understand the gravity of the loss, the child kept shouting in Kannada – “Amma bega baa, Appa yelliddiya baa” (mom come fast; dad, where are you) – as he writhed in pain on a hospital bed. The boy hadn’t had a morsel of food since morning.
His relatives, who had come from Bengaluru, were trying to console him saying his father and mother had gone to the hotel to bring him food and chocolates.
