Fire scare aboard Jet Airways plane forces emergency landing
Jet Airways Flight 9W 2839 going to Mangaluru from Bengaluru returned to the Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (KIAB), on Wednesday after smoke was observed in the cabin.
A full emergency was declared at KIAB for priority landing following which the runway closed for operations at 10.20 am. The ATR-72 short haul aircraft landed safely. Standard emergency procedures were followed.
All 65 passengers and 4 crew members onboard were deplaned and are safe, a statement from Bangalore International Airport Ltd, the airport operator said in a statement. Four passengers were given first aid at the airport medical room.
During this period three arrival flights were held on air and five departure flights on ground. Runways resumed operations at 10.51 am, it said.
In line with the airport’s constant commitment towards passenger safety prompt and timely action from the Aircraft Rescue & Firefighting team ensured that all passengers onboard the aircraft were evacuated safely, it said.
