Central Railway starts trials on Neral-Matheran narrow gauge route

MUMBAI: Central Railway commenced trials on the 20km Neral-Matheran narrow gauge route, shut for almost three years after authorities decided to replace sleepers with concrete ones to ensure mishap-free journeys on the corridor that witnessed extensive damage in rain in 2019.

CR’s chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said, “The track is almost completed and trails are on in the section. CR is planning to re-start the train soon.”

A source said that if all goes well, the the route will be open to tourists in October or November.
