Baliapal petrochem unit land acquisition halted
The revenue staffers of Baliapal encountered opposition from a local group when they went to carry out a survey prior to land acquisition at Jamunasolo village on Monday for the establishment of a proposed petrochemical project.
They had to return without accomplishing any work amid the protests.
“There is resistance from a small group of villagers. Majority of villagers want the project to become a reality. For larger interest, we would go ahead with the project,” said Sub-Collector Nilu Mohapatra.
Notably, stepping up its agitation against the land acquisition for the proposed mega petrochemical unit, the ‘Upakula Bhita Mati Surakhya Committee’ (UBMSC) had organised a protest meeting on Friday at Anladiha GP under Baliapal block, which was convened by local leader Arun Jena.
