Airlines scrap boarding-pass fee

KOLKATA: All airlines have stopped charging an additional fee of Rs 200 to issue boarding passes to passengers who reach the airport without web check-in following a notification from the civil aviation ministry. On an average, around 10% of departing passengers — or 2,500-3,000 flyers — do not do prior check-in and pay the amount to get the boarding pass at the check-in desk.

On May 21, 2020, prior to the commencement of domestic flights post the lockdown, the ministry had made it mandatory for passengers to do web check-in and download the boarding pass on the cellphone or get a printout. Following this, private carriers IndiGo, SpiceJet and Go First (formerly Go Air) began charging Rs 100 to those who did not get web checked-in. Last year, they increased the fee to Rs 200.
