18 anti-nuclear protesters in Tamil Nadu sentenced to 7 years in jail

TIRUNELVELI: Protesting is one’s right, but they don’t have the right to attack someone for participating in protests or force people to contribute to the protests, observed sub-judge Barshad Begum of the sub-court at Valliyoor on Friday, while sentencing 18 anti-nuclear protesters from Idinthakarai village to seven years of imprisonment in an attempt to murder case.

Among the 22 booked in the case, People Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) activists S P Udayakumar, M P Jesurajan and Pushparayan were acquitted for lack of evidence, while one woman died during the trial.
