12 bikes, 1 car buried in major road cave-in at Chunabhatti

MUMBAI: A major portion of a road-around 40 feet in length-adjoining an SRA construction site and Vasantdada Patil Prathistan’s College of Engineering at Chunabhatti (East) caved in around 9am on Wednesday, burying about 12 two-wheelers and one four-wheeler parked in the vicinity. “The initial report suggests the cave-in may have been caused by piling work carried out at the construction site of an SRA project adjoining the road and water seepage due to rain. Even the piles collapsed. Fortunately, there were no injuries,” said a BMC official.

“The piles were about 60 to 70 feet deep, and the area around it must be about 40 feet deep,” said a construction firm official.
