Windshield cracks, Chennai-Goa SpiceJet flight lands in Bengaluru

BENGALURU: Passengers on board a SpiceJet flight from Chennai to Goa on Thursday spent an anxious hour as the cockpit windshield developed a crack mid-air, forcing the pilots to make an emergency landing at the Bengaluru airport.
Sources said the windshield on the co-pilot’s side cracked shortly after takeoff from Chennai around 11am. Around 70 passengers were onboard.
“SpiceJet flight SG3105 (Chennai-Goa) was diverted to Kempegowda International Airport due to a technical issue. It landed without incident at 12:17pm on January 2, 2020. All passengers and crew are reported safe,” a Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) spokesperson said. BIAL is the operator of KIA.
“While cruising, the outer pane of P2 side windshield cracked. The pilot in command decided to divert the flight to Bengaluru. The aircraft landed safely,” a SpiceJet spokesperson said.
