The United Kingdom has decided to end subsidies on all new onshore wind power projects as it expects to achieve the targeted electricity requirement of 30 per cent from renewable resources by 2020 from the existing projects.

All the existing approved projects, which have obtained land, grid-permission will receive subsidy. But there are about 250 proposed projects with 2,500 turbines for a total capacity of 7.1 GW, which will not receive subsidy. This would mean that they will have to reduce their costs and also look for other markets like India where the potential is very high.
