Wildlife institute to assess impact of doubling railway line
BENGALURU: Nearly three months after the Supreme Court revoked the approval granted by National Board for Wildlife for doubling the railway line linking Tinai Ghat (Karnataka) with Kulem (Goa) citing lack of credible data for projections given by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, Dehradun-based Wildlife Institute of India has taken up a study to assess environmental impact of the project on wildlife habitat and ecology.
According to forest department sources, NBWL in 2019 approved diversion of forests spread over 121 hectares in protected area, 115 hectares in non-protected area and 7 hectares of reserve forest for doubling of Castle Rock-Kulem railway line passing through Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary.
