Virudhunagar has highest solar power potential in state

Chennai: Virudhunagar has emerged as the district with the highest solar power potential in Tamil Nadu for ground-mounted projects, followed by Trichy, Tirunelveli, and Tuticorin, according to a report by the National Institute of Solar Energy, operating under the Union ministry of new and renewable energy.
The report pointed out that around 10% of the state’s wasteland can be harnessed for solar power generation, translating into an estimated potential of 204,765 MWp (megawatt peak: about 205 GW).
