UT mulls privatisation of Electricity Dept, staff edgy

The UT Administration has revived a four-year-old proposal for restructuring the Electricity Department by turning it into a corporation.

A consultant will be hired this week to prepare a comprehensive proposal in this regard. The Administration has directed the department to float a tender for the appointment of the consultant. The consultant’s role would be to undertake a comprehensive study on the current performance of the power sector in the city and suggest a roadmap for corporatisation of the department.
