UPPCL procuring smart meters based on 4G technology
Even as 5G telecom technology has been launched in India and three service providers have announced the roll out of the plan in all major cities by the end of this year, UP Power Corporation Limited continues to rely on old technology. The public sector power utility UPPCL has floated tenders for procuring smart meters based on 4G technology. The UPPCL intends to buy 2.5 crore smart meters worth Rs 25,000 crore through the tender.
Moreover, the UPPCL has no plans for upgrading over 12 lakh smart meters operating with obsolete 2G and 3G technology.
