United Arlines won’t fly 737 MAX until September amid new approval delays

United Airlines Holdings Inc extended on Friday the cancellation of Boeing 737 MAX flights until early September, a fresh delay that comes as sources told Reuters that the timing of a key certification flight may not happen until at least April.

The new timeline strongly suggests that none of the 737 MAX jets will be flying for a second US summer, an issue that hit US MAX operators’ profits during last year’s peak travel season. The delays could also mean more potential compensation from Boeing Co to airlines impacted by the safety ban.

Boeing’s 737 MAX was grounded worldwide last March after two crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia that killed 346 people within five months.
