Typhoon Hagibis: Air India Delhi-Narita flight taking extra fuel so it can refuel at Osaka on return sector

NEW DELHI: Typhoon Hagibis, which has battered Japan with severe flooding and landslides, has also affected Tokyo’s Narita International Airport. While most flights to and from the airport on Saturday — including India connections — were cancelled, airlines have started resuming the same from Sunday evening.
A senior Air India official said: “We have been told that fuelling facility at Narita has been affected. Japanese authorities told us they can give us fuel at Osaka. So we have taken DGCA permission to operate a flight on Delhi-Narita sector Sunday night with extra fuel. On the return sector, this flight will take off from Narita and take a refuelling halt at Osaka from where it will fly to Delhi.”
In the past few days, AI’s Delhi-Narita was taking a slightly circuitous route to Tokyo to avoid the typhoon.
