Two Bescom engineers from Bengaluru held in transformer blast case

BENGALURU: Two Bescom engineers from the city were arrested on Monday for their alleged negligence in attending to the faulty transformer that exploded near Jnanabharathi last week, killing a security guard and his daughter.

The accused are M Dinesh, 35, resident of RR Nagar and S Mahantesh, 46, of Manganahalli. Dinesh is assistant engineer with Bescom (Byadarahalli unit) and Mahantesh is junior engineer with the power utility.

On March 23 evening, Shivaraju, 50, and his daughter S Chaitanya, 18, residents of Mangammanapalya near Hongasandra, were riding back home after booking a party hall at Chikkabasti to host the engagement ceremony of Chaitanya, scheduled for March 27.
