Trichy-Lalgudi highway set for major redevelopment
TRICHY: The state highways department’s national highways wing has proposed a major redevelopment plan for the accident-prone stretch of the old National Highway (NH 81) that connects Trichy with agrarian villages around Lalgudi town. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has developed a new highway with a trumpet exchange between Trichy and Chidambaram to replace the old NH stretch, which is 39 km long and was handed over to the state highways department for maintenance.
The NHAI Villupuram Project Implementation Unit (PIU) has provided a one-time improvement fund of Rs 47.5 crore to the state highway department’s NH wing to redevelop the old NH 81. A proposal was prepared by the state highways department to redevelop the 39 km stretch,
