Chennai: A chilly Sunday morning spared Chennai from a repeat of last year’s major power disruption, as low electricity demand helped the grid handle a fire at the Manali 400 kV substation without triggering a citywide outage.
An interconnecting transformer in the substation caught fire around 5am. Since the transformer was equipped to isolate itself in such circumstances, the failure did not affect other transformers.
