Torrent to build pumped storage hydel plants worth Rs 27k crore

NEW DELHI: Torrent Power will build pumped storage hydel (PSH) projects with a combined capacity of 5,700 megawatt in Maharashtra entailing an investment of Rs 27,000 crore, the Ahmedabad-based company said on Tuesday.

The projects will be constructed at Karjat at Raigarh district (3,000 MW), Maval (1,200) MW) and Junnar (1,500 MW) of Pune district. The projects have been planned to provide a minimum of six hours of energy storage on a daily basis.

All the projects are off-stream and will provide employment to 13,500 people during construction. Senior company executives said completion of PSH projects take about five years but can be done earlier id statutory clearances and land acquisition happens fast.
