TN sends plan to rly board to revamp MRTS stations

CHENNAI: The unwieldy and desolate MRTS stations may finally get to be people-friendly, as the Tamil Nadu government has approved a draft memorandum of understanding to take over and maintain stations and platforms of MRTS stations in the city.

The state government will take over the Beach-Velachery MRTS route with 18 stations from the railways in phases and merge it with the Chennai metro rail. The line will also be extended to St Thomas Mount in a year or two.

As the plan is to first take over maintenance and development, the state government has begun firming up the proposals and plans.
