Tier-2 cities being put on the aviation map, during the pandemic
Most metros in India now have a great framework of connectivity with other parts of the country, especially Tier-2 cities. However, when it comes to Mumbai, this wasn’t always the case. Over the last year, flights to and from Tier-2 cities have shown a considerable increase at Mumbai airport, keeping in mind the current trends of work and leisure.
A Mumbai International Airport Ltd spokesperson said to TOI that, till July, this year, 64% of passengers that were travelling through Mumbai airport were coming from or going to a Tier-2 city. The second wave of Covid did stall domestic flights, however, that is now regaining ground as flights to Tier-2 cities begin again.
