Threat of chemical in fuel tank leads to diversion of AI Mumbai-New York flight

New Delhi: Air India Thursday said that its flight between Mumbai and Newark had to make a precautionary landing in London’s Stansted airport after it received an email from people, who claimed to be Palestine sympathisers, informing that the aircraft may explode due to a chemical in the fuselage.

“An email with the threat was received. We immediately diverted the aircraft to London for a thorough check of the aircraft,” said a senior Air India official, who did not want to be identified.
