Thai Airways told to pay flyers Rs 2.5 lakh for delay in refund

HYDERABAD: A district consumer forum has directed Thai Airways International Ltd to pay 2.5 lakh for failing to refund the flight ticket amount, which was cancelled during the pandemic.

The complainants, Lata Marur and her daughters, submitted that they have booked business class tickets on Thai Airways in January, 2020 from Hyderabad to Bali for travel on March 17, 2020, and return tickets for travel on March 22, 2020 by paying 2.1 lakh.

Due to the pandemic, the airways had cancelled flights to Bali. Upon confirmation that the full amount will be refunded, the complainants cancelled the tickets on March 6, 2020. They received a confirmation that they would get the refund within four weeks. The account holder Vijay Marur, from whose account the tickets were booked, passed away during the pandemic.
