VIJAYAWADA: While the Andhra Pradesh power sector and power utilities are facing its worst financial crisis, it is now revealed that the previous TD government had purchased power in excess even when there was no need for power, and thereby wasting public money.
As per the data accessed from government sources, the peak power demand over the last 5 years never crossed 10,200 MW. The peak demand was 7,391 MW in 2015-16, 7,965 MW in 2016-17, 8,983 MW in 2017-18, 9,453 MW in 2018-19 and 10,170 MW in 2019-20 (by July 19).
