Tata Power Company set to offer 100% green energy in Maharashtra at extra 66 paise/unit
Tata Power Company’s retail consumers in Mumbai as well as industrial and commercial establishments in the state will soon be able to switch to 100% renewable energy — if they so choose — by paying an additional 66 paise per unit.
This follows an order by the Maharashtra electricity regulator earlier this week.
Tata Power, which generates and distributes power in Mumbai, had approached the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) with a proposal for what it called ‘Green Power Tariff’ (GPT), which includes a premium over the tariffs now being charged for supply from conventional sources.
In a first of its kind development, the MERC approved the company’s proposal and said that GPT will be treated as non-tariff income.
