Tangedco detects 14 power theft cases in Chennai

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has detected 14 cases of energy theft at Ambattur in Chennai.
An extra amount of Rs 10.03 lakh was levied on consumers, towards the loss incurred to Tangedco due to the stolen energy.
The consumers concerned admitted to the offence and chose to compound the case and remitted an additional sum of Rs 75,000 to avoid criminal proceedings.
Hence, no police complaints were lodged, according to an official release on Wednesday.
