Tamil Nadu: Tangedco suffers 1,260 crore loss because of lockdown
CHENNAI: Tangedco has estimated a revenue loss of 1,260 crore on account of the lockdown as most high-tension consumers have shut shop since March 24.
About 44 lakh industrial and commercial connections in the state are not drawing power at present. These used to provide a major share of revenue for Tangedco and make up for the revenue loss caused by supply of free power to huts, farmers and weavers.
“At present, only one or two thermal units of Tangedco run because power demand has dropped. The peak demand on Monday night was only 11,000MW. It is mostly from the domestic segment. Since every household is entitled to 100 units of free power per billing cycle and all huts are provided free power, no need to explain that Tangedco is bleeding,” said a senior Tangedco official.
