Storage plants to help meet power demand in long run: RK Singh

New Delhi: Power minister RK Singh on Thursday said battery energy storage and pumped storage plants will help to meet power demand growth in the long run.

The two storage plans were announced in the Union budget for 2023-24. The total cost of the 4,000 Mwh battery energy storage is about ₹9,500 crore, while a policy for pumped hydro storage plants is in the works, he said. The minister said for peak power demand the government could invoke section 11 of the Electricity Act, if needed.
