Steel flyover coming up in Chennai’s T Nagar; to cost Rs 131 crore
CHENNAI: In an effort to fast-track work, Greater Chennai Corporation is building a steel flyover in T Nagar on congested South Usman Road. Officials said this is the second fully steel bridge in the state after the one at Marthandam in Kanyakumari district.
Corporation chief engineer (general) S Rajendiran said the pile and pile cap are of concrete and placed beneath the ground. “The pier, pier cap and deck girders, of high tensile steel, are made in Trichy and brought here. It takes only few hours to place them. Above the girders, a steel deck sheet is placed. Then a 20-cm thick concrete slab is placed, on top of which bitumen road is laid.”
