State highway police begin survey for Pune-Mumbai expressway safety

The state highway police Thursday started a survey to check ‘speeding of vehicles’ on the Pune-Mumbai expressway by placing four interceptors. Under the survey, a detailed study will be done and a report will be submitted to Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) and IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited by the highway police.

The death of former legislator and Maratha leader Vinayak Mete on August 14 has brought the issue of rising road accidents on the expressway to the fore and as a result, the highway state police has undertaken the survey.

“The survey will continue for 15 days and a detailed study about the behaviour of drivers, reasons behind lane cutting and speeding will be noted down. A final report will be submitted along with suggestions and recommendations to the MSRDC and IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited, which operates the highway,” said a highway state police (HSP) senior official requesting anonymity.
