SpiceJet scare: DGCA to probe, inspect fleet; crew taken off duty
A DAY after SpiceJet’s Mumbai-Durgapur flight encountered severe turbulence, causing serious injuries to several passengers with two of them in an ICU, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Monday constituted a “multi-disciplinary team” to investigate the incident.
“We have deputed a multi-disciplinary team to carry out the regulatory investigation,” DGCA chief Arun Kumar told The Indian Express. As part of this exercise, the DGCA will also carry out an inspection of the entire SpiceJet fleet, which currently comprises 91 aircraft.
Pending the probe’s findings, the regulator de-rostered the Gurgaon-based airline’s cabin and cockpit crew who were on that flight.
