SpiceJet responds to DGCA show cause notice; ‘appropriate decision shortly’
NEW DELHI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has received cash-strapped SpiceJet’s response to the show cause notice it had issued to the budget carrier on July 5, 2022. “We have received a response from the airline. We are examining (the same) and shall take (an) appropriate decision shortly,” a senior DGCA official said on Tuesday.
Following a spurt in incidents in recent months, the regulator had issued a show cause to SpiceJet for failing “to establish safe, efficient and reliable air services.” The airline had to respond by Tuesday (July 26), explaining why action should not be taken against it.
Once under regulatory scanner of strict checks, incidence of snags on SpiceJet flights have reduced in past few weeks. On Monday, the government had said in a Parliamentary reply that the regulator had conducted 53 spot checks on 48 aircraft of SpiceJet between July 9 and July 13 and it did not find any major safety violations.
