NEW DELHI: A SpiceJet captain’s flying licence has been suspended for taking his aircraft to the middle of Ahmedabad airport runway despite air traffic control (ATC) asking him to wait at taxiway holding point as another aircraft had begun take off roll on that runway. Even the co-pilot on SpiceJet flight had correctly read back the ATC instruction to the captain to hold.
The incident had happened on July 9, 2019, when SpiceJet flight SG-2988 being operated on Bombardier Q400 (VT-SUL) was taxiing to operate an Ahmedabad-Jaipur flight. It entered the runway on which at that point of time a GoAir flight G8-913 had begun take off roll to fly to Goa.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) launched a probe in this runway incursion and issued a showcase to SpiceJet flight captain. On Tuesday it issued the order in this investigation, suspending the captain’s licence for six months from July 12.
