Southern Railway’s Chennai division resumes loading of cement from Melpakkam
CHENNAI: Southern Railway’s Chennai division has started transporting cement from Melpakkam in Tiruvallur district after a gap of eight years, as part of the marketing drive launched to encourage industries to switch from road to rail for transportation of goods.
The freight train consisting of 21 BCN minirake transported 1,377 tonne of cement to Salem junction on Thursday. This has brought Rs 6 lakh revenue to railways.
