Southern Railway collects all-time high fine from ticketless passengers

SALEM: Southern Railway collected Rs 115 crore as fine from passengers for travelling on trains without valid tickets in the financial year 2022-23. This is an all-time high fine collection compared to the previous years, according to officials in Salem Railway Division.

Southern Railway has special squads at Chennai, Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram railway divisions. They were carrying out the checks frequently at all the railway stations.

They would collect a fine from each passenger for not having valid tickets and having tickets for another station instead of their actual destination station.
